How to Make Your TikTok Scroll Halal: Sunnah Tips for Social Media!

Yo, fellow Gen Z Muslims!  We all know that TikTok is basically life, right? It’s where we find our memes, dances, viral trends, and, let’s be real, a good dose of extra entertainment. But as Muslims, we also want to make sure that our time on TikTok stays halal. And no, this isn’t about turning off the WiFi or pretending like TikTok doesn’t exist. It’s about using our social media space in a way that aligns with the teachings of Islam while still having fun! After all, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us how to live a balanced life, yes, even on TikTok.

So, grab your phone and let’s scroll through this post on how to keep your TikTok halal, based on Sunnah. Let’s make those viral moments halal-worthy!

1. Keep Your Intentions Pure (Niyyah)

Alright, first things first, before you even open TikTok, let’s get that niyyah (intention) right. Think of this like a mindset shift. If you’re scrolling just for laughs, no problem, but make sure you’re not getting stuck in an endless scroll of pointless content that doesn’t benefit you. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Actions are judged by intentions.” (Bukhari)

So, what’s your goal when you scroll? Are you looking for entertainment with purpose, to learn something new, or to share positivity? Start each session with a quick reminder that you’re using social media to benefit yourself, and insha’Allah, you’ll feel more focused.

2. Avoiding Things That Are Harmful to Your Heart (Fitnah)

Okay, let’s be real: TikTok can get wild. You know what I mean? Side-eyeing that “trending” content . There’s a lot of stuff out there that can definitely get your heart drifting from the straight path. Whether it’s inappropriate content, drama-filled videos, or things that just make you feel bad about yourself, it’s crucial to guard your heart.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body, and if it becomes good, the whole body becomes good; but if it becomes corrupt, the whole body becomes corrupt. That piece of flesh is the heart.” (Bukhari)

So, use your heart as a filter. Before watching or liking something, ask yourself: “Will this bring me closer to Allah or distract me from my purpose?” If it’s the latter, just swipe left, fam. Don’t let that fitnah enter your heart!

3. Setting Boundaries: Protect Your Time & Energy

Who else gets caught in a TikTok rabbit hole?  One minute, you’re watching a cute cat video, and then suddenly, it’s two hours later, and you’ve seen every single video from that one random account. We’ve all been there, right?

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was big on balance. He didn’t overdo anything. If he prayed, he prayed; if he laughed, he laughed, but he never allowed anything to take over his time.

So here’s a Sunnah hack: Set a timer before you start scrolling! Limit your TikTok time so you don’t end up wasting the precious time Allah has given you. You could also schedule a prayer break during your scroll to remind yourself to take a step back and engage in something that nurtures your soul.

4. Be Kind, Be a Positive Influence!

If you’re gonna be on TikTok, you better be bringing that good vibe!  Allah loves when we spread kindness and positivity. You don’t need to be a TikTok star to leave an impact. Share content that uplifts others, whether it’s an inspiring reminder from the Quran, a piece of advice, or just a funny, wholesome video to make someone smile.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.” (Daraqutni). So, make sure your TikTok presence spreads some light in the world! And remember, your energy is contagious, if you share positivity, it’ll come back to you in more ways than you can imagine.

5. No Need for Excessive Show-Off (Riya)

We get it. TikTok is all about flexing your creativity, showing off your style, and letting everyone know what you’re up to. But, here’s the trick: Keep your heart humble. Don’t get obsessed with getting likes or views. That’s not what it’s all about!

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against showing off in your good deeds. He said, “Whoever does a good deed and shows off, Allah will show him up.” (Sahih Muslim)

So, keep it real. If you’re doing something awesome, whether it’s a dance or a creative video, do it for the joy it brings you, not just to get the hype. TikTok fame isn’t the end game, earning Allah’s pleasure is.

6. Promote Healthy Relationships, No Backbiting or Gossip!

One last Sunnah tip: Keep your interactions with others respectful. TikTok is a space full of different personalities, and while we can engage in good-natured fun, we need to be careful not to fall into the trap of backbiting or gossiping about others.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Do not backbite each other. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would hate it.” (Quran, 49:12)

So, while you’re commenting on your friend’s hilarious dance or giving advice, be mindful of your words. Keep the vibe positive and loving!

Final Thoughts: TikTok, But Make It Halal!

TikTok isn’t the problem. The way we use it is. By following these simple Sunnah tips, we can ensure our time on social media aligns with our values as Muslims while still enjoying the fun side of life.

So, Gen Z, let’s make our TikTok scrolls halal. Keep it intentional, positive, and kind. Remember, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) showed us the way to balance everything in life, even scrolling through the latest trends.

Let’s keep it halal, keep it fun, and keep spreading those good vibes!
