Anxiety. Stress. Overthinking. They’re like uninvited guests that crash into our minds and refuse to leave. As a young Muslim girl navigating school, friendships, family expectations, and social pressures, life can feel overwhelming. But guess what? You’re not alone. And there’s a powerful remedy that’s been right within your reach all along: Dua!
In Islam, Dua is a direct line to Allah (SWT) — your Creator, Protector, and the One who understands you better than anyone else. So, when anxiety or stress tries to break you down, turn to these beautiful Duas taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and feel the calm wash over your heart.
1. The Dua for Relief from Anxiety and Sorrow
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the life of my heart and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress.” (Ahmad, 1/391)
Why It Works: This Dua is a complete surrender to Allah’s will, acknowledging His control over your life. When you say it, you’re essentially letting go of everything weighing you down and asking Allah to fill your heart with the light of His words. It’s powerful. It’s healing. And it works.
2. The Dua for Peace of Mind and Protection
The Prophet (PBUH) used to seek refuge from anxiety and sadness by reciting:
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.” (Bukhari, 7/158)
Why It Works: This Dua covers every kind of distress you can think of! It’s a shield, a protective layer around your heart and mind. When you feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges, this Dua reminds you that Allah is your ultimate protector.
3. The Dua for Inner Peace and Contentment
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to recite this beautiful Dua:
“Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Adheem.” (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:129)
Why It Works: This verse means, “Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity except Him. I have placed my trust in Him, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.” It’s a declaration of total faith and reliance on Allah. Repeat this when you feel anxiety building up inside you, and you’ll feel a wave of calmness soothing your soul.
Final Thoughts
It’s okay to feel anxious. It’s okay to feel stressed. But it’s even better to know that you have a loving, merciful Lord who listens to you whenever you call upon Him. Try these Duas. Feel their power. And whenever life feels too heavy, remember that you’re stronger than you think because Allah is always with you.
